The 4 day Morocco tour from Fes takes you on an unforgettable private journey from Morocco’s cultural capital through the Middle Atlas cedar forests, across the golden Sahara dunes, and into the dramatic gorges and kasbahs of southern Morocco — arriving in Marrakech with four days of extraordinary memories.
This tour is the perfect option for travelers starting in Fes who want to experience the Sahara Desert without backtracking. The route connects two of Morocco’s greatest cities through completely different landscapes each day: from the European-style forests of Ifrane to the vast sand seas of Erg Chebbi, from the towering cliffs of Todgha Gorge to the ancient mudbrick architecture of Ait Benhaddou.
Led by a local Berber guide from the Drâa-Tafilalet region — the very heart of this route — your 4 day tour from Fes offers authentic insight into the landscapes, culture, and people of Morocco’s most spectacular region.
Depart Fes in the morning and head south into the Middle Atlas Mountains. Stop in Ifrane, a charming town with alpine architecture and manicured gardens, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco.”
Continue to the Azrou cedar forest, one of the largest in North Africa, where you can see wild Barbary macaques living among the ancient Atlas cedars. Drive through the town of Midelt, set in a fertile valley surrounded by apple orchards.
Cross into the Drâa-Tafilalet region, passing through Errachidia — the regional capital and home base of Azawan Tours. Descend into the stunning Ziz Valley, its deep canyon lined with thousands of date palms, before arriving in Merzouga at the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes.
In the late afternoon, mount your camel for a trek into the golden dunes. Watch the sun set over the Sahara as you arrive at your desert camp for an evening of Berber hospitality — traditional dinner, drumming, and a night under an endless canopy of stars.
Overnight: Erg Chebbi — Sahara desert camp (dinner and breakfast included)
Wake before dawn to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast at camp, return by camel to Merzouga.
Spend the morning exploring the Merzouga area. Visit a nomadic Berber family living at the edge of the desert, learn about their traditional way of life, and enjoy Berber mint tea. Optionally, take a 4×4 excursion deeper into the desert.
After lunch, visit Rissani, one of Morocco’s oldest trading posts and the ancestral home of the Alaouite dynasty. Explore its lively traditional souk, one of the most authentic markets in southern Morocco.
Overnight: Merzouga area — hotel or riad (dinner and breakfast included)
Depart Merzouga and head west toward the Todgha Gorge, stopping at Tinejdad and its Oasis Museum along the way. Arrive at Todgha Gorge, where immense 300-meter limestone cliffs frame a narrow river passage — a natural wonder and a favorite spot for climbers from around the world.
Continue west into the Dades Valley, passing through the town of Boumalne Dades. The valley is famous for its unique “monkey fingers” rock formations, its rose-colored kasbahs, and the serpentine road that climbs through the Dades Gorge — one of Morocco’s most dramatic drives.
Overnight: Dades Valley — guesthouse or hotel (dinner and breakfast included)
After breakfast, drive through the Rose Valley (Kalaat M’Gouna), where fields of Damask roses are harvested each spring to produce rosewater and cosmetics. Continue through the palm oasis of Skoura.
Stop at Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Morocco,” before visiting the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou — a stunning fortified village of mudbrick towers that has appeared in countless films.
Cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, with panoramic views at every turn. Descend into Marrakech by late afternoon, where your guide drops you at your accommodation. Your 4 day tour from Fes concludes in the Red City.
End of tour in Marrakech
Yes. We offer this same itinerary in reverse — starting in Marrakech and ending in Fes. Check our 3-Day Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour for a shorter option, or contact us to customize.
The extra night allows you to fully experience the desert — not just the camel trek but also visiting nomadic families, exploring Rissani’s souk, and optionally doing a 4×4 excursion. Most travelers tell us the extra desert time was the best part of their trip.
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the best weather. Summer can be very hot in the desert, and winter nights in the desert are cold — though still magical. We operate year-round.
Not at all. The camels are gentle and experienced. The ride is about 1–1.5 hours at a slow, comfortable pace. No experience is needed, and our guides walk alongside you the entire time.
